Tony Mathew

Tony Mathew is the Principal Transport Specialist at Transport Research Laboratory (TRL), leading its India operations.  Tony has over 20 years’ experience  in road safety and traffic engineering projects in various countries including UK, Ireland, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Vietnam and India. Tony’s experience includes implementation of road crash data systems, developing evidence based interventions for improving road safety, development of road safety strategies and action plans, institutional development, road safety training and capacity building of public sector agencies, highway and traffic engineering .  .

Currently, Tony is engaged with Central Government and various State Governments in developing solutions for improved road transport management including road safety improvements. Earlier, Tony was involved as an advisor to UN-ESCAP  to develop road safety infrastructure guidelines to be adopted in Asian Highways by all member countries. He is also a faculty in training road safety training programs, for stakeholders engaged in road safety across the country. Tony is also a noted speaker on road safety issues and has presented various papers in road safety forums in Australia, Africa, UK, Thailand & India.  Tony is a Civil Engineer and a post graduate in Road Management and Engineering from the University of Birmingham, UK.
