Thomas Bousios

Thomas Bousios serves as Director and Chief Information Officer (CIO) at IFAD, where he steers the Organization’s information technology strategy, overseeing operational systems, financial and data analytics platforms. He has conceptualised a decentralized AI community adoption approach using hands-on practices for embedding AI into institutional routines and is leading IFAD’s efforts to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) within corporate operations and practices. Due to this early engagement in practical AI adoption, he has frequently contributed to shaping approaches and insights within the UN including the High-Level Committee on Management (HLCM) networks, as well as with the International Financial Institutions communities.

Prior to IFAD, he held leadership roles in the European Union and the European Defence Agency (EDA), overseeing all systems, community platforms and classified networks. Before that, he served as ICT Group Leader at Fusion for Energy (F4E) in support of EU’s contribution to the ITER nuclear fusion project. He began his career at Citibank, and in management consulting as team leader with Deloitte Consulting and Ernst & Young Global Client Consulting.

He holds an MBA and a Master’s degree in Business Informatics from the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, and has completed the innovative CIO program at Stanford University.
