Steffen Knoblauch

Dr. Steffen Knoblauch is a Postdoctoral Researcher and Lecturer at the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR) at Heidelberg University and a Research Associate at the Heidelberg Institute for Geoinformation Technology (HeiGIT). He also serves as a Research Consultant for the World Bank’s Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR). He holds a Ph.D. in Geoinformatics from Heidelberg University and M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees in Industrial Engineering from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Steffen is a Young Marsilius Fellow for interdisciplinarity and science communication and has been recognized with the Klaus Tschira Foundation KlarText Award for Science Communication. He has professional experience in operations research and deep learning, including work with the Research Center for Information Technology (FZI), the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), the Frontier Development Lab (FDL), Daimler, and the eVTOL startup Lilium. His current research focuses on multimodal spatiotemporal modeling to support equitable climate action, humanitarian response, and planetary health.
