Song Gao

Song Gao is an Associate Professor and the Director of Geospatial Data Science Lab at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Geography at the University of California-Santa Barbara, an M.S. degree in Cartography and GIS at Peking University, and a B.S. degree with Honors at the School of Geography, Beijing Normal University. His main research interests include Geospatial Data Science and GeoAI approaches to Human Mobility and Social Sensing. He is the (co-)author of 100 peer-reviewed articles in international journals and conference proceedings. He is the (co-)PI of multiple research grants from NSF, WARF, Microsoft AI for Earth and geospatial industry, and the recipient for various honors and research & teaching awards at national/international levels, such as the AAG Fellows, Waldo Tobler Young Researcher Award in GIScience, UCGIS Early-Mid Career Research Award, and AAG SAM Emerging Scholar Award. He serves as an Associate Editor for IJGIS (2023-Now) and Annals of GIS (2018-2022), and the Editorial Board Members for Nature Scientific Data, Scientific Reports, Geoinformatica, Transactions in GIS, and CaGIS. He is one of the lead organizers for the AAG Symposium on GeoAI and Deep Learning, GeoAI workshops at ACM SIGSPATIAL, and GeoAI webinars at CPGIS.
