Raphael Fischer

Raphael Fischer is a researcher at the Lamarr Institute for Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence and PhD candidate at TU Dortmund University. As a representative of AI for Good, he leads the Young AI Leaders hub in Dortmund. His work focuses on advancing the sustainability, efficiency, and trustworthiness of machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) systems, addressing critical challenges in the design, implementation, and reporting of modern AI solutions.

With a strong academic foundation, Raphael holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science from TU Dortmund University and gained international research experience at Monash University in Australia. Since 2019, he has been pursuing his doctorate, working on projects that bridge theoretical innovation and practical application. Raphael has made important contributions to AI research, including several papers published in well-established conferences and journals like “KDD” and “Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery”. His expertise spans a range of technical domains, including time series forecasting, automated model selection, and the development and reporting of sustainable and trustworthy AI systems.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Raphael has served as a research associate at Wilo SE, where he applied his knowledge to real-world challenges in industrial manufacturing over the course of three years. As an international coordinator for the Computer Science Department at TU Dortmund University, he led a significant transformation in how the department supports international exchanges. He is deeply committed to fostering innovation in machine learning while promoting interdisciplinary discourse, sustainability and ethical AI practices. This motivation also fuels his dedication to participate in the Young AI Leaders Programme and advance regional projects for AI for Good.
