Natalie Raffoul

Natalie Raffoul

Natalie Raffoul is Managing Partner and co-founder of BRION RAFFOUL LLP, an intellectual property law firm she established in 2008. She is internationally recognized for her expertise in patents relating to software, artificial intelligence, machine learning, business methods, and emerging technologies. She is also co-founder of Fortress IAM™, a platform that helps companies manage intellectual property, contracts, and corporate records.

Natalie has been ranked among the world’s leading patent practitioners in the IAM Patent 1000 annually since 2014 and has been recognized in the IAM Strategy 300: The World’s Leading IP Strategists since 2020. In 2025, she was named an IAM Global Leader, one of the profession’s highest distinctions. She is also recognized by IP STARS and Who’s Who Legal as a leading patent expert in Canada.

Natalie has played a significant role in innovation policy, serving on Ontario’s first Expert Panel on Intellectual Property and advising organizations including the Ontario Health Data Platform and the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI). In 2026, she was appointed a Fellow of the Balsillie Legal Advisory Centre and the Balsillie School of International Affairs.
Natalie has worked extensively with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), advising governments, innovation agencies, and technology companies worldwide on intellectual property strategy, commercialization, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies.

Her practice includes patent strategy, portfolio management, licensing, technology agreements, commercialization, and intellectual property enforcement. She also advises clients on government and defence procurement and represented Waterfront Toronto during negotiations relating to the Quayside smart city project.

A registered patent agent, Natalie holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from Western University and a Juris Doctor from Queen’s University. She is a frequent speaker and commentator on innovation, intellectual property, and technology policy, and serves on several boards supporting innovation and commercialization initiatives.
