Melanie Penagos

Melanie Penagos is the Project Manager for the Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Children project at UNICEF and co-author of the draft Policy Guidance on AI for Children, a guide to promote children’s rights in government and private sector AI policies and practices. Previously, she was a Research Analyst at the Data & Society Research Institute where she analyzed the human rights impacts of AI and co-authored the report Digital Identity in the Migration and Refugee Context. Earlier in her career, she worked at non-profit organizations, including Public Knowledge, where she led capacity building efforts for digital rights defenders, and Amnesty International, where she supported global human rights campaigns. Melanie received her M.Phil in International Peace Studies from Trinity College Dublin and holds her B.A. in International Relations and Spanish.
