Mekena McGrew is a Lead Quantum Information Scientist with a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of California, Merced. Her journey began in the Arts and Design Academy at her California high school, where she first discovered physics through the lens of artistic creation. This early fusion of art and science sparked a lifelong fascination with the beauty of the physical world — a theme that continues to shape her work across quantum research and creative practice.

Between academic and industry roles, Mekena took a sabbatical to explore the expressive potential of quantum computing. During this time, she pioneered algorithmic music composition using quantum circuits, translating wavefunctions into sound to bridge abstract physics with human emotion. Her work lives at the frontier where technical innovation meets artistic insight.

At the core of her mission is a drive to develop quantum technologies that not only push scientific boundaries, but also contribute to societal progress and artistic expression.
