Maxwell Ababio is the Head of Technology and Ethics at Data Protection Commission – Ghana. Maxwell Ababio is an accomplished leader in the intersection of technology, innovation, and AI & Data governance.

With over 12 years of experience in the tech industry in private/government, he built a reputation for driving responsible innovation while ensuring that emerging technologies align with both societal values and regulatory standards. He plays a crucial role in shaping the commission approach to developing and implementing data products to increase revenue and analysis.

In this capacity, Maxwell Ababio leads a cross-disciplinary team drafting the national ethical & AI strategy and Data governance. Maxwell Ababio works closely with the key sectoral leaders, legal team, product development, and external stakeholders to ensure that technological advancements do not come at the cost of ethical considerations, fairness, and transparency.

I represent Ghana in Africa Union Data Categorization, Sharing & Cross-Border Data Flow committee as 1st vice chair. Lead the Digital Cooperation organization (DCO) AI Adoption Playbook to guide in their journey from AI readiness to accelerated AI adoption, which serve as a strategic companion for harnessing the transformative potential of AI technologies. Focal person leading UNESCO AI RAM assessment in Ghana. A member of Africa Asia AI Policymaker Network.
