Matthieu Kohl

Dr. Matthieu Kohl is a Scientific Officer in the Early Warning Services Division at the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) where he leads work on impact-based forecasting and contributes to the implementation of the Early Warnings for All initiative (EW4All). He is co-author of the Pillar 2 chapter on hazard detection, observation, monitoring and forecasting for the AI for EW4All report. His work focuses on strengthening multi-hazard early warning systems, advancing the integration of emerging technologies and AI into forecasting services, and supporting operational early warning implementation across WMO Members.
Prior to joining WMO, Matthieu worked at the European Commission Directorate-General for Research and Innovation on climate science and Earth observation policy, contributing to Horizon Europe work programme development. He previously completed his PhD in Atmospheric Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where his research focused on extreme precipitation and storm formation in current and future climates.
