Masinde Muthoni

Prof. Muthoni Masinde is an internationally recognised expert in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS). As Dean of FEBIT at the Central University of Technology (CUT), she leads strategic initiatives advancing digital transformation and 4IR-driven innovation.

She is the founder of ITIKI (Information Technology and Indigenous Knowledge with Intelligence), an award-winning platform that integrates AI, machine learning, and Indigenous Knowledge for drought prediction and food security in Kenya, Mozambique, and South Africa.

Prof. Masinde played a pivotal role in conceptualising and launching the CUT AI Hub, part of the Artificial Intelligence Institute of South Africa (AIISA), and has contributed to multiple South African government AI policy initiatives. She represented South Africa at the UNESCO Southern Africa Sub-Regional Forum on Artificial Intelligence (Windhoek, 2022) and actively promotes ethical, inclusive, and human-centred AI governance.

A C2-rated scientist with over 100 peer-reviewed publications, she has received numerous awards, including the DST Distinguished Young Woman Scientist Award. Her work continues to shape Africa’s AI and climate resilience agenda through innovation, policy, and empowerment.
