Martyn Clark

I lead urban heat resilience work at the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) Secretariat in Geneva, where I built and run the Global Heat Resilience Service – a global initiative turning Earth observation and climate science into practical, neighbourhood-scale heat risk intelligence for cities.

My work combines three things: Earth observation and spatial data science, senior programme leadership across international institutions, and applied urban climate adaptation. Over 20+ years I have delivered urban resilience programmes across Africa, Asia, and Europe for UN agencies, multilateral development banks, and bilateral donors.

At GEO I provide the scientific leadership behind our heat risk tools while coordinating delivery with partners including IBM, C40 Cities, and Alibaba Cloud. I chair GEO’s Resilient Cities Working Group and serve as a Review Editor for the IPCC Special Report on Cities. I’m equally at home analysing satellite data and representing GEO at international policy forums.
