Maria João Sousa

Maria João Sousa is a Mechanical Engineering graduate from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) with a specialization in Systems, and she is currently a Research Fellow and Ph.D. student at IDMEC and IST. Her research work focuses on cooperative robotics and intelligent sensors for wildfire detection and monitoring. Maria’s background includes experience with deep learning and computer vision applications with integration of visible and thermal range cameras, and depth sensors, as well as clustering and optimization techniques, including both convex approaches, and non-convex derivative-free optimization metaheuristics. She is also passionate about robotics and applying computational intelligence and optimization to real-world problems.
