Leonardo Milano is a data science expert specializing in predictive analytics and risk modeling for humanitarian action. He leads the Data Science Team at UN OCHA’s Centre for Humanitarian Data, where he develops models to anticipate crises and support decision-making in emergency response. His work focuses on turning data into actionable insights, enabling humanitarian organizations to intervene proactively.

Before joining UN OCHA, Leonardo worked as a Senior Data Scientist at the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC), where he developed disaster risk models to assess displacement patterns. His expertise spans data analysis, machine learning, statistical modeling, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). He also has extensive experience in research coordination, having led scientific projects at institutions like CERN and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

Leonardo is committed to responsible analytics, ensuring transparency and accountability in predictive modeling. He actively contributes to ethical discussions around AI in humanitarian contexts and promotes best practices for peer review and model validation.
