Kessie Govender

Dr Govender has basic training in engineering and physics. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical/electronic engineering, as well as honors and PhD degrees in Physics. He worked in industry for approximately thirteen years, and as a university academic/researcher for approximately twenty years. During the last ten years he has been at the Cape University Peninsula University of Technology, where he established a quantum optics laboratory. The focus of this laboratory is to undertake fundamental and applied research in the field of atomic physics, in particular laser cooling of atoms. In the process of establishing the lab, several engineering/scientific tools have been developed. He is currently in the process of commercializing these products via a spin-off company.
