Dr. Joseph Philipo Telemala is a Lecturer in the Department of Informatics and Information Technology at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), Tanzania. His research focuses on Artificial Intelligence and data-driven technologies for addressing challenges in low-resource settings, with interests spanning Natural Language Processing (NLP), speech technologies, information retrieval, digital health, climate resilience, and AI applications in agriculture.
He is currently leading and contributing to several internationally funded initiatives, including efforts to develop speech and text resources for underserved African languages and ethnic communities. His work also explores the use of AI and data science to support areas such as climate-sensitive disease prediction and technology-driven solutions for agriculture. Dr. Telemala is passionate about building inclusive and socially impactful AI systems that ensure underserved communities are not left behind.
