Jinu Um

With a strong belief that ICT can connect and bring better life to people, Jinu Um joined the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in 2016.

He works in the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB) and is looking into new trends such as artificial intelligence, digital finance, and smart cities to find possibilities for human good.

Before joining ITU, Jinu has started his professional career at the Korea Communications Agency (KCA) in 2001. His main focus was on global cooperation and international organization in the field of ICT. In coordination with Korean government and Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT), he has established an international training program on spectrum management for decision makers from developing countries.

He also played a role as project management officer to support administering national projects on “Next Generation Broadcasting”.

From 2012, he worked for the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT), Republic of Korea and was one of the core organizing member of the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2014 (PP-14) and OECD Science & Technology Ministerial Meeting 2015.

Jinu was awarded “Prime Minister Citation, Republic of Korea” for international cooperation in 2015.

He holds BSc in Electronic Engineering and received master’s degree in Media Communication & Interactive Media from Sogang University, Republic of Korea.
