Helen Nakiguli

Helen is the current Chairperson for the ITU-T SG5 for the African Regional Group, works at the Uganda Communications Commission as the Senior Officer Environment Management. She is an associate rapporteur for Question 7 under the Study Group 5 on ‘e-waste, circular economy and sustainable supply chain management’, and a past Vice Chair of the Working Group 7 [Green ICTs and E-waste Management] of the East African Communications Organization (EACO). She is an environmental professional providing technical oversight, management, planning and implementation, consultancy, policy advice and research on environmental sustainability projects, frameworks, and project designs. She is part of the teams in contribution of international, regional and national standards, guidelines and strategies in environment and sustainability. She has spearheaded national projects and initiatives on ICT environmental compliance including e-waste management, the recent one being a study on the end-of-life management of end user ICT devices and the national EMF survey for mobile phone base stations in Uganda. She was at the fore front at the recent launch of the national e-waste collection centre in Uganda. Helen holds a MSc.in Environment Management and Sustainability (climate change pathway, a B.Engineering in Environmental Engineering and Management and a Post Graduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management.
