H.E. Ms. Lerato D. Mataboge

H.E. Ms Lerato Dorothy Mataboge is the Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy at the African Union. A South African expert in global policy, trade and investment facilitation, she previously served as Deputy Director-General at the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (dtic).

She founded and was CEO of Trade Invest Africa and served as non-Executive Director on the Board of the Export Credit Insurance Corporation of South Africa (ECIC).

Her earlier roles include Chief Director for Africa at the dtic, leading South Africa’s commercial engagements in BRICS, G20/B20 and AfCFTA negotiations, chairing the North-South Corridor Steering Committee under the AU’s Presidential Infrastructure Championing Initiative (PICI) from 2012 to 2018, and serving as Minister: Economic at the South African Embassy in Washington D.C.

She holds a Master’s in International Political Economy from the University of Warwick, BA (Law and International Relations) and Honours in International Relations from the University of the Witwatersrand, and executive education in Infrastructure from Harvard Kennedy School.
