H.E. Mr. Tummala Nageswara Rao

Hon. Tummala Nageswara Rao is a senior statesman, lifelong farmer, and one of India’s most experienced public leaders in the fields of agriculture, irrigation, rural development, and infrastructure. With a political career spanning more than four decades and nearly two decades of ministerial experience across successive governments in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, he has played a pivotal role in shaping agricultural and rural development policies in the region.

As the Minister for Agriculture, Marketing, Co-operation, Handlooms and Textiles in the Government of Telangana, Mr. Rao is leading initiatives to enhance agricultural productivity, strengthen farmer incomes, modernize agricultural markets, and promote sustainable and climate-resilient farming systems. Drawing on his firsthand experience as a farmer, he advocates practical, farmer-centric solutions that combine traditional knowledge with modern technologies.

Under his leadership, Telangana is advancing key agricultural initiatives, including Rythu Bharosa income support for farmers, crop loan assistance, irrigation modernization, soil health management, digital farm infrastructure, farmer advisory services, market reforms, and the strengthening of Rythu Bazaars to improve direct market access for producers. The state is also exploring the use of artificial intelligence, geospatial technologies, and data-driven decision-making to support sustainable agricultural growth and improve service delivery to farmers.

Throughout his distinguished public career, Mr. Rao has held several major ministerial portfolios, including Agriculture, Irrigation, Roads & Buildings, Women & Child Welfare, Marketing, and Infrastructure Development. He is widely recognized for his contributions to irrigation expansion, rural infrastructure development, farmer welfare, and inclusive economic growth.
