H.E. Mr. Darius STANIULIS

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representative at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Lithuania to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva (since 10 January 2022), Permanent Representative and head of the Permanent Mission of Lithuania in Geneva. 

After law studies focusing on international law in Lithuania and the UK he joined the Lithuanian Diplomatic Service in 1993 and served in different positions at the MFA, as well as in the Consulate General in New York, the Permanent Mission in Geneva, and the Permanent Representation to the European Union. He also was seconded to the OSCE Mission to Georgia. 

With first assignments in legal and consular areas, in 2001 he moved to the human rights issues, which mostly included involvement in activities at the UN and expert committees of the Council of Europe. In 2004 he was appointed as the Head of the Human Rights Division of the Lithuanian MFA. Focus on human rights was further continued during posting in the Permanent Mission of Lithuania in Geneva in 2008-2011. After this posting he was appointed as the Deputy Director of the United Nations, International Organizations and Human Rights Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he continued work on human rights issues, as well as was involved in successful  Lithuania’s UN Security Council election campaign and further activities of the UN SC. In 2015-2018 he worked as Minister Plenipotentiary of the Permanent Representation to the EU in charge of RELEX issues. In 2018 he returned to the United Nations, International Organizations and Human Rights Department and was appointed its Director, in which capacity he worked until the beginning of 2022.
