H.E. Mr. Cristian ESPINOSA CAÑIZARES

Since 20 December 2022, Ambassador Espinosa has been the Permanent Representative of Ecuador to the United Nations and other International Organization in Geneva. From 2020 to 2022, he served as Permanent Representative of Ecuador to the United Nations in New York.  Prior to that appointment he served as his country’s ViceMinister for Foreign Affairs since 2019. Mr. Espinosa has served as a career diplomat in Geneva and Japan, as well as Director General of the Andean Community in Lima, Peru. He taught at various universities, including the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (2006 to 2014).  Since 2004, he has also served as a panelist and arbitrator in trade disputes for the World Trade Organization (WTO). The holder of a master’s degree in public administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, Mr. Espinosa also has a bachelor’s and a master’s in philosophy and economics from Boston University.
