Grant Michael Boquet

Grant Michael Boquet

Dr. Grant Michael Boquet is a scientist and technical leader in artificial intelligence, machine learning, statistics, and applied scientific computing. He currently leads the development of GeoGPT at Zhejiang Lab, where his work focuses on AI systems for geoscience, including multimodal modeling, seismic interpretation, geospatial analysis, scientific tool integration, and AI-assisted research workflows. This work applies modern foundation models, domain-specific models, and agent-based workflows to Earth science, with the goal of developing practical AI systems that integrate geological maps, seismic data, remote-sensing products, scientific literature, geospatial tools, and expert models to support interpretation, discovery, and decision-making in complex geoscience workflows.

Dr. Boquet also plays a leading role in advancing international collaboration around GeoGPT and related AI-for-Science initiatives, including work with partners in digital Earth, open scientific knowledge, geoscience standards, nature-based solutions, and responsible AI for environmental and sustainability applications.

Before joining Zhejiang Lab, Dr. Boquet served as a Principal Scientist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where he led the Statistics and Machine Learning departments. His work focused on applying statistical learning and machine intelligence to high-consequence national problems, including cybersecurity, computational medicine, uncertainty quantification, recommender systems, and large-scale scientific data analysis. He led technical teams and multi-institution research programs supporting U.S. government mission agencies, helping translate emerging AI methods into technical capabilities for analysis, evaluation, and mission decision support.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Boquet served as chief machine learning and signal-processing engineer for the U.S. Navy’s Knifefish unmanned underwater vehicle program, pioneering AI capabilities for the Navy’s first deployed underwater drone system.
