Eunsong Kim

Eunsong Kim is the Chief and Programme Specialist of the Social and Human Sciences Sector at the UNESCO South Asia Regional Office, covering Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.

 

At UNESCO, Eunsong spearheads initiatives that drive social transformation, with a strong focus on the ethics of Artificial Intelligence (AI). She leads the design and implementation of projects to promote ethical AI principles, ensuring inclusivity and equity in AI development and deployment. Her work emphasizes aligning AI innovation with human rights, addressing gender biases, and fostering diversity in AI governance frameworks.

 

Eunsong’s expertise extends to youth empowerment, sports for development, intercultural dialogue, and engaging men and boys for gender equality, while her projects increasingly integrate ethical AI as a cross-cutting theme. Her leadership in UNESCO’s global AI Ethics Recommendation implementation has been pivotal in advancing responsible AI practices across South Asia.

 

With extensive experience in bilateral and multilateral organizations, including the Korea Development Institute (KDI) and UNICEF, Eunsong has led initiatives such as the UN Joint Programme on Girls’ Education in Nepal and UNESCO’s flagship project, Transforming MENtalities. Eunsong holds an MSc in Comparative Social Policy from the University of Oxford and brings a development-focused perspective to her work, particularly at the intersection of gender, education, and emerging technologies.
