Deb Kumar Chakrabarti

Shri Deb Kumar Chakrabarti is a 1988 batch officer of the Indian Telecommunication Service. He has served in a number of organizations of the Union Government including Department of Telecommunications, Indian Space Research Organisation, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, National Communications Academy and Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.

His vast and highly diverse experience of 36 years include areas like Policy Formulation, Research, Innovation, Regulation, Enforcement, HR & Establishment, Administration, Satellite-based Remote Sensing, Emerging Technologies, Training & Capacity Building, Operation & Maintenance, Cyber Security and  International Event Management.

He has played a pivotal role in successfully bridging the connectivity gaps and digital divide in the North-Eastern Region of India. He also played a significant role in implementing many Mision-mode Projects and flagship programs like BFA (Broadband For All), BSG (Bridging the Standardisation Gap), Tele-connectivity via Bangladesh, MKY (Mission Karmayogi), etc. of the Govt of India. He has represented the country in many international events including ITU, ASEAN, etc.

Presently, he is serving as the Member(Services), Digital Communication Commission, Department of Telecommunications and an Ex-officio Secretary to the Govt of India. In his present role, he continues to drive forward the agenda of total development, including innovation and overall excellence in the field of telecommunications in India.

He is an Electronics Engineer from MMM University of Technology, UP and Post Graduate in Public Policy and Management from IIM, Bangalore and Maxwell School, Syracuse University, NewYork. He is a Fellow of The Institution of Engineers (FIE).
