Dai Kan

Dr. Kan Dai currently serves as the Deputy Director General of the National Meteorological Center (NMC) at the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), where he also leads the Intelligent Weather Forecasting Innovation Team. As a recognized Chief Meteorological Expert by CMA since 2020, Dr. Dai contributes internationally as a member of the WMO Expert Team on Operational Weather Forecasting Systems (ET-OWFS) and has been appointed Chief Scientist of the National Key Research and Development Program focused on kilometer-scale rolling forecasts for severe weather events. With over 19 years of frontline operational experience in weather forecasting, his research expertise encompasses ensemble forecasting applications, intelligent grid-based forecasting techniques, and forecast verification methods. Dr. Dai has authored over 80 peer-reviewed papers, holds more than 15 software copyrights, and has received several prestigious awards, including the Meteorological Science and Technology Progress Award and other provincial and ministerial honors. His leadership has driven key advancements, notably in the “0–30-day Seamless Intelligent Grid Forecasting Technology and System,” and “Fine-scale Probabilistic Forecasting of Short-duration Heavy Precipitation Based on Multi-scale Models,” both recognized among the outstanding meteorological technological achievements in China.
