Chuma Memela

Chuma Memela is an AI innovator, entrepreneur, and speaker passionate about making artificial intelligence practical and accessible for everyday people and businesses. He is the founder and managing director of Genie-yus AI, a company that delivers AI-driven workshops designed to help entrepreneurs, professionals, and organisations understand and implement AI tools to improve productivity, branding, and business performance.

Through Genie-yus AI, Chuma has delivered training for several leading institutions and municipalities including the Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC), Nelson Mandela University’s Centre for Entrepreneurship, the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality, and the Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs, and Tourism. He has also partnered with organisations such as Nedbank’s SimplyBiz, the New Leaders Foundation, and the SBK Training Group to deliver tailored AI programmes for corporate and public sector clients.

He graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Commerce in Economics and Information Systems, earning 23 distinctions, and went on to complete his Honours in Information Systems as the top performer in his class. He also holds a Business and Information Technology certificate from the University of the Free State Business School in partnership with the EBL Institute, where he was the top achiever in the Eastern Cape and third nationally out of 500 students, winning five awards including Most Dedicated Student. He is currently completing his Master of Commerce in Information Systems, focusing on FinTech and financial inclusion among micro-enterprises.

As a research consultant, Chuma has contributed to policy work and economic development research for government institutions, particularly across the Eastern Cape. He has been featured as a speaker on major platforms such as TruFM, Keith Ngesi Radio, Mdantsane FM, JCI Durban, and the National Youth ICT Council, where he shares insights on AI, entrepreneurship, and the future of work.

His LinkedIn content on AI literacy and digital transformation has reached over 1 000,000 people, positioning him as one of the emerging voices helping South African businesses embrace technology.
