Carol Buttle

Dr Carol Buttle has a background in counter terrorism and secure communications and spent many years as a cryptographer. As an expert in protecting Critical National Infrastructures globally, she advises multiple governments on protection and detection methods, currently serving as a consultant evaluator for multi-agency approaches to crisis and disaster planning. She regularly advises on strategies to protect countries and their citizens from deepfake technology and the dissemination of misinformation and disinformation being exploited through various channels and platforms. Having previously worked on the UK Government’s Verify and One Login programs and the Department for Science and Innovations Digital Identity and Attribute Trust Framework and its certification scheme, she is currently working with several countries to develop Trust Frameworks and conformity assessment schemes with particular focus on Digital Identity, the positive uses of AI, Smart Data and multimedia authenticity and content provenance.

Also through working with various global organisations and standards bodies, Carol is dedicated to the enhancement of cross border collaboration and knowledge sharing of good practice.
