AI-Vision for the Visually Impaired

AI-Vision for the Visually Impaired

AI Vision is a portable assistive device designed to help visually impaired individuals to identify and interact with objects in their everyday environment. The system integrates a microcomputer and a camera into a compact wearable device, capable of capturing images in real time and processing them on-device.

When activated by the user through a simple interface, the system detects and recognizes objects using computer vision models (YOLO-based) and provides immediate audio feedback through speech synthesis. This enables users to understand their surroundings in a discreet, intuitive, and accessible way.

The device is optimized for domestic environments, focusing on common objects and personalized detection based on the user needs. With an affordable hardware such as the Jetson Orin Nano, the system ensures scalability and real-time performance.

The project follows a human-centered design approach, collaborating with organizations and end users to validate real needs and usability. Rather than replacing existing aids, AI Vision acts as a complementary tool to enhance autonomy, safety, and quality of life.
