This is a replay of the session that took place on the Solutions Stage during the AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva, Switzerland from 8 to 11 July, 2025. Artificial Intelligence is rapidly reshaping societies, economies, and governance systems, offering significant opportunities for innovation and sustainable development. However, the design, development, deployment and governance of AI systems must align with human rights and values to ensure they are inclusive, transparent, accountable and safe.

This session brings together perspectives from governance, human rights, and technical standardization to explore how AI systems can be developed and governed in a manner that upholds human rights, promotes responsible innovation, and supports solving global challenges.

Rather than focusing on abstract risks, the discussion will center on practical approaches to embedding human-centric principles into AI development and deployment, with an emphasis on transparency, accountability, and participation. A key focus of the event is the discussion of a framework to guide the integration of human rights impact assessment into standardization processes.

“OHCHR has long advocated for integrating human rights into digital governance. From your perspective, what are the most practical steps we can take to ensure that human rights impact assessments become a standard component of AI development and technical standardization processes?”

“Your work at ECNL bridges legal frameworks, civil society, and digital technologies. In your view, what legal or institutional mechanisms are most effective in ensuring that AI systems—especially those deployed by public authorities—remain accountable to human rights?”
