This is a replay of the session that took place on the SDG Stage during the AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva, Switzerland from 30 to 31 May, 2024.

AI Optimism, Pessimism and Hesitancy based on Ithra’s 35-Nation Global Digital Wellbeing Survey

With many governments now considering proposals for AI regulation, policymakers and tech companies are compelled to navigate the complex trade-offs between AI’s risks and opportunities, benefits and harms. In this context, understanding public attitudes towards AI is paramount, especially where the regulations governing the development and use of AI will be arrived at through participatory decision-making.

Based on a comprehensive 35-nation survey, this session explores current public attitudes toward new technology in general, with a specific focus on the emergence of publicly accessible advanced AI tools. We examine national and regional variations in such attitudes and delve into some of the factors that predict AI hesitancy.
