Quantum computing is at the top of the hype curve and offers unique research opportunities. It is well known that quantum computing will break the current security methods, and post-quantum cryptography has already been standardized. Both industry and governments are investing heavily in this upcoming technology, and there are significant challenges. Networking quantum computers is one potential alternative to developing large quantum computers. This motivational talk will highlight the opportunities for research in quantum networking.

    Session Objectives:

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

    • Explain how quantum computing threatens current security systems and describe the role of post‑quantum cryptography in mitigating these risks.
    • Identify and evaluate research opportunities in quantum networking, including its potential as an alternative approach to scaling quantum computing.
