  • Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) and artificial intelligence (AI) are strong allies, as AI and ML enable sophisticated, scalable processing and computing techniques for resource-heavy AR/VR technologies. AI excels at tracking objects, creating detailed 3D world models, and making decisions using complex data, which all contribute to next-gen AR/VR development. The goal is to bridge the sensory and digital worlds seamlessly in real-time, which is challenging due to the complexity of AI models and high prediction latency in real-time systems. Developing methods for processing ultra-high-bandwidth data from sophisticated sensors at ultra-low latency is a priority, with new technologies like LIDAR, neuromorphic imaging, and “tightly coupled” sensing and AI/ML technologies equipping AR/VR with state-of-the-art imaging and low-latency processing.

In this talk, we will discuss how AI components like deep learning can greatly improve AR strategies, offering users improved interactions with their physical environment. Some striking examples include simulation training for high-risk professions, defense and military strategy, VR chatbots for more realistic interaction, physical environment mapping (Digital Twin) for planning and resource positioning, and in-depth sensitive mapping for medical surgeries. AR/VR technologies have immense potential in various industries, such as education, defense, healthcare, and urban planning, by providing enhanced experiences and more accurate information for decision-making.
