    According to the World Economic Forum Global Risk Report 2026, AI-generated misinformation and disinformation, including deepfakes came second among the short term (2 years) global risks most likely to present high threats to the society. This workshop will provide an update on the activities of the AI and Multimedia Authenticity Standards Collaboration (AMAS). AMAS is convened by ITU under the auspices of the World Standards Cooperation and was launched at the AI for Good Summit 2024. AMAS is a global initiative advancing standardization in the rapidly evolving field of AI-generated and altered media. By mapping the landscape of standards for multimedia authenticity, identifying gaps and areas where new standards are needed, AMAS work aims at informing policy and regulatory frameworks to promote legal compliance and safeguard public trust. The main objectives of the workshop will be to provide an update on the latest developments on AI standards for multimedia authenticity and the policy and regulatory challenges facing global companies such as social media platforms to comply with the AI and multimedia authenticity legislations in various jurisdictions.

    The technical paper developed by AMAS offers a comprehensive overview of the current landscape of standards and specifications related to digital media authenticity and artificial intelligence. The objective of the session will be to share best practices on the technical standards identified in the technical paper and discuss gaps in current standards and ongoing standardization activities to address this gap.

    This session will discuss the challenges facing global platform providers and AI companies operating globally to comply with different juridsictions legal framework for Generative AI, deepfakes, and misinformation. 

    The main objectives of this session will be to share the outcomes of the AMAS Young Research Associate Programme and showcase some of the lessons learned and innovative research projects on the theme of multimedia authenticity.
