Are you AI ready? A new AI standards framework has just launched

Today, the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), in collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), has launched the AI Readiness Framework. This framework has been designed to support countries around the world to adopt emerging technology effectively and foster international cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

Today, the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), in collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), has launched the AI Readiness Framework.

This framework has been designed to support countries around the world to adopt emerging technology effectively and foster international cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

The report, AI Ready – Analysis Towards a Standardized Readiness Framework, was unveiled during the third edition of the Global Artificial Intelligence Summit (GAIN), organized by SDAIA in Riyadh from 10 to 12 September 2024.

The framework offers a comprehensive set of guidelines to assess and enhance the effective integration of AI technologies across countries, promote sustainable development and economic growth, and establish a global standard for evaluating their AI capabilities and strategies.

The framework will prioritize strengthening international cooperation, supporting economic growth by establishing global standards for AI readiness. Additionally, it will focus on enhancing national capacities in the field.

This report is primarily intended to support government officials, policymakers, and influential leaders in the AI and technology sectors. It also targets international organizations, development agencies, academic and research institutions, AI practitioners, developers, business and industry stakeholders, NGOs focused on technology and development, as well as media and communication professionals interested in AI advancements.

This report provides an analysis of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Readiness study aimed at developing a framework for assessing AI Readiness which indicates the ability to reap the benefits of AI integration.

The main AI readiness factors include: 1) Availability of open data 2) Access to Research 3) Deployment capability along with Infrastructure.4). Stakeholders buy-in enabled by Standards – trust, interoperability, security 5) Developer Ecosystem created via Opensource and 6) Data collection and model validation via Sandbox pilot experimental setups.

As a precursor to this launch, SDAIA signed an agreement with ITU to develop a global framework for measuring AI readiness at the second Global Artificial Intelligence Summit in September 2022. The initiative aims to facilitate the sharing and adoption of best practices, regulatory frameworks, and necessary institutional reforms across all countries.
