Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a key technology driving the global digital revolution. It offers a range of new opportunities to break down existing barriers to human development and social inclusion and to help achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The lack of open access to training data for AI in African countries is a key barrier to the effective development and use of AI technologies at the local level. Many sources of data, for example, language data or image data, are not yet openly available for African users. This means that local AI developers often need to use data from Western countries which is not representative of the local context and may produce flawed results.

This course focuses on addressing practical challenges to AI training data in African countries as a way of strengthening local actors in the field of AI through locally developed learning content. This course is about building open, locally relevant, and unbiased AI training data for AI practitioners in Africa.
