Shady is an AI Engineer/Data Scientist and MSc AI for Sustainable Development student at University College London. He specialises in creating AI systems that align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). His work includes developing an Early Warning System for Food Insecurity Prediction, built end-to-end from an original dataset with explainable AI methods, and a Deforestation Detection Model using satellite imagery and deep learning to monitor forest loss in Indonesia.

Professionally he has 7 years of experience in Consulting, has worked at GIZ, and had multiple stints at start-ups, pitching at the Brazilian Central Bank at the G20 Techsprint and building the frontend for a food waste reduction app that made it to #1 on the UAE App Store and raised $1.5 Million.

Fluent in English, German, French, and Arabic, Shady has worked across four countries, bringing a global perspective to his technical work. Through the Young AI Leaders Programme, he hopes to contribute practical experience in building AI systems that are not just powerful, but explainable, ethical, and genuinely useful for the communities they’re designed to serve.
