Andrew Tupper

Dr Andrew Tupper heads the Early Warning Services section at the World Meteorological Organization and is WMO’s pillar lead for the Early Warnings For All initiative. He is a tropical meteorologist with specialisations in multi-hazard early warning systems and volcanic ash clouds. During his career he has variously been the manager of the Australian Bureau of Meteorology’s Northern Territory operations including the Darwin Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre and Darwin Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre, and also the head of the Bureau’s National Operations Centre in Melbourne (where he was also the co-director of Australia’s Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre), and also the Bureau’s State Manager for Victoria. Dr Tupper was additionally the inaugural Chair of the Northern Territory’s Environmental Protection Authority. He brings a broad perspective of early warning system operations, and is a passionate advocate for cross-disciplinary approaches.
