Mohamed Shareef is a digital transformation leader focused on building resilient, sovereign digital futures for small island developing states (SIDS) and the wider Asia-Pacific region. Over a career spanning more than two decades, he has served at the highest levels of government, including as Minister of State for Environment, Climate Change and Technology in the Maldives. In that role he led the development of foundational national digital public infrastructure in the Maldives. As Chair of the UN ESCAP Asia-Pacific Information Superhighway (AP-IS) Steering Committee, he advanced regional cooperation on connectivity, data governance, and inclusive, sustainable development. A Senior Member of IEEE and holder of a Master of Engineering from the University of Birmingham, with further certifications in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, Shareef combines technical depth with executive policy experience. Guided by the principle of strategic digital sovereignty, his work ensures that technology empowers communities and builds resilience against climate and economic vulnerability. He is a recognized practitioner-scholar in digital governance, IT strategy, and equitable digital ecosystems.
