Barbara Glover

Barbara Glover is a dedicated advocate for science, technology, and innovation in Africa. With a background in innovation and emerging technologies and extensive experience in research and policy, Dr. Glover currently serves on the secretariat of the African Union High-Level Panel on Emerging Technologies (APET) at the African Union Development Agency-NEPAD (AUDA-NEPAD). In this role, she works towards harnessing scientific advancements for the sustainable development of the continent. Dr Glover’s passion lies in promoting collaborative efforts that leverage technology for positive impact across diverse sectors.

She also spearheads work on the AUDA-NEPAD Artificial Intelligence Continental White Paper and Roadmap and the development of innovative policy instruments around AI in sectors like health, education, climate change, and food security.

Her current work builds upon experiences working since 2016 at AUDA-NEPAD in aiding African countries in identifying, harnessing, and implementing emerging technologies for Africa’s socioeconomic development. In this role, Dr. Glover supports conducting research, analysing data, and strengthening capacity on frontier technologies for socio-economic development. Additionally, she engages in evidence-based analysis of science, technology, and innovation (STI) papers, drafts policy recommendations, develops guidelines for deploying emerging technologies, and contributes to the creation and implementation of capacity-building programs aimed at fostering a culture of innovation among the youth.
