The Kpop idol, Big Ocean is a boy band made up of three artists with hearing disability.
Jiseok, PJ, Chanyeon live with varying degrees of deafness and their dream to become an idol seemed unpromising until AI was adopted. With an AI Voice conversion solution applied to their own records, Big Ocean could make their debut last April. The CEO of Parastar entertainment, Haley Cha is going to share stories from beginning to end(now) about how the journey went.
Afterward, Big Ocean will perform “Hope,” a very renowned remake song from Korea. This work is globally recognized as the first KPOP AI song, using the artists’ voice that is deep-learned by AI. This song is particularly meaningful, as it was Big Ocean’s debut song after a fearless struggle against social prejudice that deaf individuals won’t be able to become singers after all. The lyrics of “Hope” give a message to the audience, that nothing can be impossible if you believe in yourself and hold hands around you, and the creation of this song itself is a testament of this message, as various technologies had assisted the three members to overcome their hearing limitations and to produce music with their own voice which was difficult, otherwise.
