WildDrone

WildDrone aims to revolutionize wildlife conservation practices by using autonomous drone technology and AI as a unifying platform to monitor wildlife populations, track their movements, and manage human-wildlife conflicts. We believe that the rapid decline of wildlife populations has prompted an urgent need for more effective and feasible nature conservation practices.

WildDrone is an international training network funded by the EU’s Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions to research and develop the use of drones and AI for wildlife conservation. WildDrone will train 13 doctoral candidates and equip them with a unique combination of multidisciplinary skills for drone-based ecology and wildlife conservation. The candidates work closely together in a global training network to realize the full potential of drones, AI, and companion autonomous systems for nature conservation missions.

The network’s interdisciplinary research methodology is based on developing novel drone- and AI-driven technologies and to generate discoveries through ecological studies. The newly completed hackathon brought 30 researchers together in Ol Pejeta Conservancy (Kenya) where we experimented on the African savannah with drones and AI for nature conservation.
