Taeyoon Kim

Taeyoon is a Programme Officer at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) secretariat. He leads the work on the UNFCCC Technology Mechanism Initiative on Artificial Intelligence for Climate Action, an initiative established in 2023 to explore the role of artificial intelligence as a powerful technological tool for advancing and scaling up transformative climate solutions for mitigation and adaptation action in developing countries, with a focus on least developed countries (LDCs) and small island developing States (SIDS).

Before joining the secretariat, Taeyoon worked at the National Institute of Green Technology as a researcher, conducting research on climate technology policies and identifying ways to effectively provide technology transfer to developing countries by examining local policies and governance structures. He was also part of the drafting team for the National Framework Plan for Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth and served as a member of the national delegation for UNFCCC climate change negotiations.

Taeyoon holds a PhD in Energy and Environmental Policy, an MSc in Public Management, an MA in International Studies, and a dual-BA in International Studies and Climate Change Studies.
