SORA4Wellbeing

Project SORA4Wellbeing explores the use of a child-sized social robot, Nao, to assess mental wellbeing in children aged 8–13. Developed through a collaboration between the University of Cambridge’s Affective Intelligence and Robotics Lab and the Department of Psychiatry, SORA guides children through tasks like memory recall, self-report questionnaires, and picture-based assessments. By analysing responses and behaviour, SORA identifies wellbeing concerns more effectively than traditional self- or parent-reports. SORA findings reveal that children less likely to have mental wellbeing concerns display more expressive responses, with notable gender differences. SORA offers a fun and effective alternative to traditional assessments, with early results showing SORA’s potential for improved detection of wellbeing concerns.
