REVEA & ShareSpaceVR

REVEA & ShareSpaceVR

Elite athletes have to develop anticipation skills to rapidly react to the opponents’ actions. VR is a unique manner to safely train anticipation skills. REVEA is a serious VR boxing training system, where virtual opponents could follow a scenario predefined by the coach, or imitate the motion and interaction styles of a future opponent. Deep reinforcement learning is used to train the virtual opponent to imitate the style of a real boxer, based on videos. The VR training system has been co-designed in collaboration with the French Olympic boxing team, to prepare the “Paris2024” Olympic games. ShareSpaceVR explores another aspect of VR training, to anticipate an attack in a cycling peloton. The attacker tries to minimize some early subtle changes in his motion, that are required prior to the attack: leaning more, translating the body on the bicycle seat, changing the hand position… prepare the attacker to suddenly accelerate. ShareSpaceVR enables to amplify these minimized adjustments to make them more visible by the follower, who can train to detect them. The system adapts to the performance of the user to tune the amplification until there is no more need of amplification.
