Monica Ortiz Alvarez

First Woman in Mexico to be selected as Commander of the First Latin American Analog Research Mission to Mars in the Kingdom of Spain, First Analog Astronaut from the State of Oaxaca, awarded by the Senate of the Republic in Mexico, and recognized as an inspiring Mexican by the National Institute of Women in Mexico, she is a Lawyer, Astrobiologist and pioneer in the promotion of space sciences and sustainable development in Latin America, being President of the Science, Innovation and Technology Commission in Mil Mentes by Mexico and International Representative of the Institute of Astrobiology of Colombia. Recognized as one of the changing faces of science and technology worldwide by UN Geneva, CERN and ITU in 2024, as well as the first local leader of the international NASA space apps challenge in Oaxaca in 2024 ,Ambassador of the ISS and currently National Promoter of the 2030 Agenda of Mexico.

In 2024, she was recognized and published in the magazine “Casa de Mexico” by the Institute of Mexicans Abroad. She also has various publications from important institutions such as UN Mexico, the Mexican Embassy in Switzerland and the Mexican Embassy in Spain. She has an Honoris Causa Doctorate from the Doctoral Faculty of Global Leaders Honoris Causa and was selected as an Authentic Woman 2024 by The Global School for the New Leadership (Women leaders in Spanish-speaking government, business and/or NGOs who, due to their authenticity, have inspired others to lead are recognized), this recognition was presented at The New Global School in Vienna, Austria.
