Lonneke van der Plas

Professor Lonneke van der Plas is the Daccò Chair in Natural Language Processing at the Institute of Argumentation, Linguistics, and Semiotics (IALS) at Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) and an adjunct professor at the Faculty of Informatics. She also heads the Computation, Cognition and Language group at the Idiap Research Institute in Martigny and is an Associate Professor in Language Technology at the University of Malta. Previously, she held a junior professorship at the University of Stuttgart and a postdoc position at the University of Geneva. She earned a PhD from the University of Groningen and an MPhil from the University of Cambridge.

She has led multiple research projects funded by SNF, Innosuisse, H2020, Erasmus+, and the German Research Foundation, often collaborating with experts in linguistics, cognitive science, and management. She has been a visiting fellow at the University of Zurich, the University of Melbourne, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. With over 50 publications, her research focuses on multilingual NLP, computational semantics, and computational creativity.
