Huazhong Ren

Dr. Huazhong Ren is a Research Professor and PhD Supervisor at the Institute of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems, Peking University. He is a recipient of the Excellent Young Scientists Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). His primary research interests focus on thermal infrared remote sensing and its applications, with an emphasis on advancing Earth observation technologies and their practical use in environmental and resource monitoring.

Dr. Ren has led and participated in numerous national and international research projects, including major projects under China’s High-Resolution Earth Observation System (Gaofen Program), grants funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and international collaborative projects supported by the UK–China Newton Fund.

He has received multiple professional recognitions, including being selected as a GIS Innovation Figure in Higher Education, a Rising Leader in Space Science jointly recognized by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, a recipient of the Li Xiaowen Youth Award for Remote Sensing Science, and a member of the Beijing Science and Technology Rising Star Program.

Dr. Ren serves as Associate Editor of the journal Remote Sensing Applications: Society and Environment and as a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Remote Sensing. He also holds several professional leadership roles, including Chair of the Young Scientists Working Committee of the International Society for Digital Earth (China National Committee), member of the 3rd and 4th National Technical Committee for Remote Sensing Standardization, Vice Chair of the Thermal Infrared Remote Sensing Committee of the Remote Sensing Application Association, and Vice Chair of the IEEE GRSS Beijing Chapter.
