H.E. Mr. Prithvi Subba Gurung

Mr. Prithvi Subba Gurung is the current Minister of Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Government of Nepal and Deputy General Secretary of the CPN (UML), is a seasoned political leader with a distinguished career spanning over five decades. A former Chief Minister of Gandaki Province and former Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Gurung has played a vital role in strengthening federal governance, promoting tourism, advocating for labor reforms, and advancing Nepal’s IT sector. Born on 13 February 1958 in Lamjung, Nepal, he holds a B.Sc. from Tribhuvan University. Known for his grassroots leadership, resilience, and commitment to inclusive development, He has a significant contribution to Nepal’s constitution drafting process and has championed federalism, social justice, employment generation, and the rights of marginalized communities. Fluent in Gurung, Nepali, and English, he continues to work towards building a digitally empowered, equitable Nepal while actively engaging in youth development, tourism promotion, and economic empowerment. He is Committed to building a prosperous, inclusive, and empowered Nepal through service, labor dignity, and federal governance. As a Minister of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MoCIT), Government of Nepal, he leads the formulation and implementation of national policies, laws, and programs related to communication, information technology, postal services, broadcasting, cyber security, and digital governance. The Minister oversees regulatory bodies, promotes digital transformation, ensures the expansion of ICT infrastructure, strengthens public service delivery through technology, facilitates innovation and startup ecosystems, safeguards citizens’ digital rights, and represents Nepal’s communication and IT interests at national and international levels. Additionally, the Minister coordinates inter-ministerial efforts to advance the Digital Nepal Framework and drive socio-economic development through ICT.
