Fiona Lippert

Fiona Lippert

Fiona Lippert is a postdoctoral researcher at the Space Research Organisation Netherlands (SRON), where she develops machine learning methods to accelerate greenhouse gas retrievals from satellite observations. She recently completed her PhD in AI for Science at the University of Amsterdam, where she focused on process-guided deep learning to monitor, forecast, and interpret bird migration using weather radar data. Her core research interest lies at the intersection of data-driven and mechanistic modeling. From hybrid and surrogate modeling to probabilistic inference and explainable AI, her work explores how machine learning can build on existing scientific knowledge and, in turn, can help advance it. She is particularly passionate about applications related to climate change and nature conservation.
